Earlier this week, the Coalition held its Third Annual Healthcare Forum. This forum continues to grow and be more successful each year thanks to the generous participation of Federal leaders in Healthcare and members’ active participation and interest.  Thank you to James Kim, former Congressmen Jim  Moran, and Jeff Miller of McDermott Will & Emery for hosting and allowing us to utilize their fantastic meeting space with the best view in Washington.  We had an impressive lineup of speakers, and I want to offer a sincere “thank you” to all of them, including Michael Missal, VA Inspector General; Dr. Barclay Butler, Component Acquisition Executive, DHA; Ricky Lemmon, Acting Chief Procurement and Logistics Officer, VA; Phillip Christy, Associate Executive Director, SAC, VA; Keith Nakasone, Deputy Assistant Commissioner, ITC, GSA; Brian Friel, Founder, Nation Analytics; Col. Pat Flanders, Deputy Program Executive Officer-Acquisition, Program Executive Office, Defense Healthcare Management Systems, DHA; Dr. James Peake, Vice President, CGI Federal; Col. Alex Zotomayor, Director, Medical Supply Chain, DLA; and Greg Giddens, Principal Executive Director, Office of Acquisitions, Logistics, and Construction, VA.

I also want to provide an update on next Thursday’s Spring Training Conference, taking place at the Fairview Park Marriott in Falls Church, VA.  I am pleased to report that our morning Keynote speaker will be Jack St. John, who was recently appointed to serve as Chief of Staff of the General Services Administration.  Mr. St. John had previously served as Senior Policy Advisor to GSA since January 20.  Prior to joining GSA, he was a partner at St. John & St. John, LLC in Alabama.

After the morning keynote, we will be holding a series of panel discussions focused on:

  • FY 2017 Budget Realities and FY 2018 Opportunities
  • Upcoming Acquisition Reform: A View from the Hill
  • Acquisition Streamlining and the Future of E-Commerce
  • Déjà vu All Over Again:  The Rogers in a Year of Transition

Our lunchtime speaker will be Deidre Lee, Chair of the Section 809 Acquisition Advisory Panel, former Office of Federal Procurement Policy Administrator, and former Director of Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy. The Section 809 Panel was established by Congress to review applicable acquisition regulations for the Department of Defense to identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the defense procurement process. We will be soliciting virtual feedback from members all morning in this regard and look forward to your active participation and ideas!

The afternoon will consist of a Dual Listening Session where you will be able to listen and provide feedback to Jeff Koses, Senior Procurement Executive, GSA; Nina Ferraro, Deputy Chief Procurement Officer, DHS; John Tenaglia, Deputy Director, Defense Procurement and Acquisition Policy; and Dwayne Weaver, Executive Director & Senior Services Manager, Navy. This session will be followed by our traditional GSA breakout sessions where you can be updated on GSA’s Professional Services Portfolio; GSA’s IT Portfolio; GSA’s General Products Portfolio; or the VA National Acquisition Center.  As always, we will conclude the day with a networking reception for attendees where we can share experiences, as well as learning from the day.  For more details, see the full agenda here.
