On August 20, The Coalition for Common Sense in Government Procurement will once again host the popular Joseph P. Caggiano Memorial Golf Tournament at the scenic Whiskey Creek Golf Club in Ijamsville, Maryland. This annual event honors the life of our dear friend and colleague, Joe Caggiano. Joe’s dedication to service continues to inspire us, and to carry that legacy forward, the tournament supports two meaningful charitable causes dedicated to our veterans. One of these causes is Paws for Purple Hearts, an organization that transforms lives by training and placing service dogs with veterans and wounded service members.
These specially trained canines provide vital support to veterans living with mobility challenges and trauma-related conditions. As you may have seen demonstrated during last month’s Spring Training Conference with veteran Kenneth and service dog Hicks, service dogs can perform several different tasks to assist with daily activities, reduce anxiety, and provide emotional support. Through its innovative Canine Assisted Warrior Therapy®, Paws for Purple Hearts allows veterans and service members to actively participate in the training of service dogs, providing therapeutic benefits to both the trainer and the future dog recipient. Each service dog is carefully matched to a veteran’s specific needs, becoming a source of strength, stability, and healing.
We began supporting Paws for Purple Hearts through the Joseph P. Caggiano Memorial Tournament in 2023. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our members and sponsors, we have already raised $23,000 toward our goal of $35,000, which is the complete cost of one fully trained Paws for Purple Hearts service dog. As this year’s tournament approaches, we are hoping to not only meet that milestone, but surpass it and get started on funding a second service dog. Every dollar brings us closer to providing life-changing support for those who have bravely served our country. The graphic below shows just how close we are to reaching our goal!
