Last week’s FAR & Beyond blog, which focused on the President’s Executive Order, “Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch,” generated significant interest and positive feedback from across the procurement community. Thank you to the loyal readers of FAR & Beyond!
The federal procurement system is ubiquitous. Through the federal procurement system, commercial services, products, and solutions are acquired daily to support customer agency missions. Thus, it stands to reason that the procurement system will play a key role in any Executive Branch reorganization designed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government for the American people. In this regard, as noted in last week’s blog, the Coalition looks forward to providing member feedback on the reorganization of procurement operations to enhance best value mission support.
One potential management opportunity is the identification, development, and leveraging of centers of procurement expertise. One such organization is GSA’s Assisted Acquisition Service (AAS). GSA’s AAS and FEDSIM have an important story to share with the procurement community. They have a proven track record of success, supporting complex, sophisticated, high-dollar information technology requirements for customer agencies across the federal government.
For this reason, the Coalition is excited to share the AAS story with you at our first ever Assisted Acquisition Forum – Bringing Best Value to Government Customers. The Forum will take place on April 4th, from 7:15 AM to 12:30 PM, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, in Tysons Corner. The Forum will feature more than 20 speakers from GSA, customer agencies, and industry.
Danny Toler, Cybersecurity & Communications at DHS, will serve as our keynote speaker. Following his presentation, there will be four panels featuring different speakers that will discuss the following topics:
- Panel I: What is AAS and How Does it Work
- Panel II: The Work of FEDSIM
- Panel III: Industry Panel
- Panel IV: Streamlining Acquisition
Among the experts on these panels will be Tom Howder, Assistant Commissioner for Assisted Acquisition Services and Chris Hamm, FEDSIM Director (see full agenda here).
We will conclude the morning with a discussion on the upcoming Pipeline for FEDSIM, which will be led by the Directors from FEDSIM and AAS.
