According to Federal News Network, the General Services Administration (GSA) is looking to improve the user experience for its Integrated Acquisition Environment (IAE) platforms by “reducing the burdens around compliance, data sharing, and functionality.”

NIST Sets Up New Task Force on AI and National Security
Nextgov reports that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has established the “Testing Risks of AI for National Security Taskforce” to evaluate various security implications of inter-agency artificial intelligence (AI) tools.

Rep. Greene to Helm New ‘DOGE’ Subcommittee in House
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) announced last Thursday that she will chair a new House Oversight subcommittee to work with the nascent Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to identify and investigate waste and corruption within the Federal Government, as well as increase government transparency through public hearings, reports Roll Call.

House Bill to Modernize Government Data, Extend CDO Council Moves Out of Committee
Fedscoop reports that the Modernizing Data Practices to Improve Government Act passed out of committee during a House Oversight and Accountability markup last week. The bipartisan companion bill to the Senate version would extend the Chief Data Officers (CDO) Council through 2031 and require it to “assess data governance and data-sharing issues that prevent adoption and interoperability of emerging technologies and AI across agencies.”
 
Key Lawmakers Back Trump’s Plans to Remove Federal Workers
According to GovExec, key Congressional leadership has expressed support for efforts to bring back Schedule F classification, a distinction that would “…remove merit-based civil-service protections from large swaths of the Federal workforce.”

House Passes Veterans’ Package Without EHR Accountability Measures
NextGov reports that a legislative package to expand services to veterans, the Senator Elizabeth Dole 21st Century Veterans Healthcare and Benefits Improvement Act, passed with bipartisan support last week. The bill notably excluded provisions related to oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

VA Needs Bigger Budget to Draw Better Cyber Talent, CIO Says
Fedscoop reports that during a House Veterans Affairs subcommittee hearing last week, VA Chief Information Officer Kurt DelBane emphasized the need for a larger budget to attract cybersecurity talent to the agency.
